So I go to the temple every week right? Well, we usually go every Tuesday and there just so happens to be a very cute brother there who works in the baptistry and just so happens to be relatively closer to my age than any other brother working at the temple ;)
He also happens to be very cute, and we have had many laughs with him in past weeks. For example, a couple weeks ago, Dallin got called "Sister Openshaw". He usually does get called "Sister Openshaw" because he usually goes after his sisters, but this lovely brother happened to call him a sister IN THE PRAYER. We all busted up laughing after the prayer and it was hilarious.
Okay, so today I go with just my sister and we're sitting in the baptistry where this cute brother is (of course) and we wait for a while and it's totally my turn and I walk into the font and he takes me by the hand (as does he with every girl so they don't slip), we exchanged greetings (and I assume that he remembers me after several weeks). I put my other hand on his wrist and then realized that I didn't let go of his hand. HAHA, seriously, I can't get over it. We both realized that we were basically holding hands.... and immediately (and awkwardly) tried to fix it. He apologized really quickly and oh my gosh. It was just really embarrassing. Hilarious, but TOTALLY embarrassing. Well, I hope that I provided you with a laugh, or at least a smile.
Moral of the story is: if you think the guy working in the temple is cute, don't forget to bring your brain with you. This is sacred work people! Now focus!

It’s a Good Thing That Boys Don’t Take Long to Get Ready
He came to pick me up and he popped his trunk so I could place the balloons inside. I hurried to climb inside the warm car to avoid the cold winter chill in the air. We drove over to Spencer’s house. The first thing I noticed was that there weren’t any lights on in the house. I immediately let my guard down. I wasn’t careful about keeping my voice down. Andrew shushed me. He looked through their window next to the door and saw the family in the distant room watching a movie. I quickly placed the two bags full of balloons on the front porch in front of his door along with the note I had written in order to indicate who it was for and the dance that I was asking him to. I knocked loudly. I booked it to the car, closed the passenger door after climbing in and we were off. Easily enough we had gotten away without being caught. It was a successful escape.
| Andrew and I after the get away! I know we're the best looking partners in crime that ever existed! |
I awkwardly avoided Spencer until he responded to my invitation. The next week of school I was terrified to even make eye contact with him. I had thoughtfully picked out who I was going to ask and now that I had, I pondered the thought of him actually rejecting my invitation. The only thing that comforted me was that I had chosen to ask him because I knew that we would have an excellent time. He was one of those kids that everyone loved because he was kind and happy all the time. We were destined to go to this dance together and to have a great time. I was on the committee to help plan this dance and the only thing that I was missing was a date. I convinced myself that I would get a positive answer; it was just a matter of playing the waiting game.
Choir was the only class that I had with Spencer that year. I sat in class a week later and waited for us to start. The choir director sent the girls to the practice rooms to learn a certain part of a song while he helped the boys practice their part in the choir room. When us girls felt comfortable with the part, we piled back into the room and took our seats. The only problem was that there was something on my seat that wasn’t there before we left the room. Balloons. Four on each corner of the chair with one placed in the middle that had been written on. What was written there was the answer I had anxiously waited for. Of course I had to be careful not to seem embarrassingly excited. My best friend, who sat next to me, smiled from ear to ear and shared my excitement with me. I had a date to the dance and I couldn’t have been more excited.
The day of the dance quickly approached. I had a dress, I had made sure that Spencer’s tie would match perfectly, and I was prepared to have the best time of my life. The group that we were in was bound to make the whole entire day eventful. Unfortunately, our plans to go bowling during the day fell through, so instead we went to lunch and played “Catch Phrase”. There were complaints from some of the girls in our group because of the simplicity of our activity. I didn’t say anything and just enjoyed myself. I had fun and it seemed as though Spencer was as well. That’s all that really mattered. Besides, it didn’t matter what we did; it was our attitude towards it that determined whether we had a good time or not. We personally had to decide whether we were going to have a good time or not. Thank goodness I had the perfect date to have the best time with no matter what we did.
When the day portion of our date was over, I took Spencer home for him to get ready. I remember specifically that we talked about how long it takes girls to get ready for dances and how it only takes the guys a short amount of time. We laughed about silly situations like that the entire time. I really did not want this date to end. It was magnificent. After I took him home, I headed to my house in order to get myself ready. I took a shower and twisted my hair back in an elegant up do, put on my dress as well as my flat shoes, grabbed my coat and keys and headed out the door to go pick up all of the people that would be riding with me in my car.
Spencer was the last person that we picked up before we headed over to meet with the rest of our group to take pictures outside and then eat dinner. I pulled up into the driveway of his house, got out of my car and walked up to the door with his boutonniere in hand. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. I waited for someone to answer, but no one came. I figured that I had knocked too softly and that I needed to try again, but instead of knocking I chose to ring the doorbell knowing that for certain someone inside the house would have heard it. There was still no answer. I waited for a couple minutes trying to decide what to do. I went back to the car to ask the other couple what I should do. They were surprised that I had been standing on the porch for the past five minutes because they couldn’t see the front door from where I had parked the car. One of my passengers offered to call the house, but I didn’t want to seem impatient in case someone was inside still. I finally just decided that I would try and knock one more time.
What if he really wasn’t home? I thought that he was the perfect guy to take on a date and was excited to get to know him more. The last thing I thought would happen would be being stood up by this kid who was supposedly perfect. I thought the day date had gone well, but maybe it hadn’t. What could possibly be going on?
On my way back up to the door to try one more time, I looked up to see a suburban speeding down the road. I immediately let out a sigh of relief as I recognized Spencer’s mom in the front passenger seat. Before the car came to a complete stop in front of the house, Spencer jumped out of the car in a James Bond type fashion and ran up to the garage. He explained while he opened up the door that his family had been up at the church cleaning when they lost track of time. I honestly found it to be hilarious. I wasn’t upset at all. His mom welcomed me into their home, complimented my outfit and invited me to take a seat. I laughed as I heard Spencer running around upstairs getting ready. He ran downstairs two minutes later, already in his suit, rushing to find his shoes. He put them on in record time and came in the front room with his hair wet. He bent over to run his fingers quickly through his hair and in record time of approximately 15 seconds it was done and he was ready to go. It’s a good thing it doesn’t take guys very long to get ready. We did the usual routine of the flower exchange and pictures were taken by his wonderful mother. We went on our way and were laughing about it the entire time. I could have easily taken his lack of punctuality offensively. It could have even gone as far as to ruining the whole night, but instead I chose to just laugh with him and make jokes about it. Luckily it made the night more memorable. Besides, we were going to have a spectacular time.
[And we did. Don't you worry!]

Exploding Spider
The past couple of times that I've been at Alex's house (which is becoming few and far between because we never have time to hang out anymore...), we've found a spider. Guess who killed them? Nope, not Alex. Not the boy. It was me. The first time it was on the wall. Being brave, as soon as I spotted the spider crawling towards the ceiling, I immediately removed my shoe and smashed it with ease. Last night Alex and I were sitting on the couch. He spotted another spider, (on the hard wood floor) but this time it was scurrying across the ground. Here's some dialogue:
Alex: (pretty calmly) Hey, there's a spider on the floor. I'm surprised that it's in such an open place. Usually they hide in corners or something.
Sav: (After spotting the spider) Oh yeah, that is a pretty ugly looking spider. I smashed the spider last time. It's your turn.
Alex: Um... no thanks.
I rolled my eyes, got off the couch, grabbed my shoe that was next to the couch and went around it in hopes of sneaking up on said spider. I skillfully succeeded in approaching it without it moving. (I have many experiences in the art of smashing spiders. Been doing it my whole life cause my dad never would.) I slowly lifted up my purple shoe, aimed carefully and threw it down on the spider. My eyes widened and to my amazement, the spider EXPLODED. Or at least that was my initial thought. It didn't make sense because the spider wasn't even that big. It wasn't your ordinary house spider, but it wasn't pretty by any means. Gross black bits were everywhere. I then realized that what had "exploded" was the bottom of my shoe. Being worn quite often, to work and everywhere else, the bottom of my shoes have gathered many miscellaneous items within the crevices of its sole (mostly including sesame seeds that have gathered from working at a sandwich shop). After realizing that the spider's death wasn't as brutal as I thought, I took my shoe, put it back next to the couch and sat down.
Then I made Alex clean it up.

Split Personality
HAHA, I had too much fun in photo today. We were supposed to take our photo and make split personalities. Here's the original picture:
And there you go, there's some demonizing for ya :)We are going to be sharing these pictures on Halloween. I'm rather excited actually. Can we just say, AWESOME? I think yes! :)
This one was cropped, changed the hue and the saturation, added some smudge along with some different colors in the background. It was rather exciting. :)
And then don't forget the tidbits of deformation :)

The Million Dollar Tooth
Let me tell you AAAAAAALL about my morning. It was rather adventurous.
So I went to the oral surgeon this morning thinking that I would get my tooth moved up all the way and then they would chain it to my braces and let it wait to fuse to the bone.
Nope.
I get to the oral surgeon's and they took me into the room that I would have the procedure done. Dr. Park walks in and he asks me how I'm doing and stuff and then we get talking and he says, "So am I on your top 100?"
Haha, what a question for a doctor to ask. Especially one that's done a total of three surgeries on my mouth before. I said... maybe. Probably not after this surgery... And then we both laughed.
I wasn't put under... they just gave me a local anesthetic. I closed my eyes so I couldn't see the needle for the shots. It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't comfortable WHATSOEVER. So I was awake for the whole thing. Dr. Park got my tooth up and right where it needed to be (which hurt terribly) with lots of pressure. Then it hurt really bad so he gave me another shot to numb my mouth even further.
He heard something pop as he was moving the tooth...
Uh-oh.
They took a quick x-ray of the right side of my mouth.
My mouth was numb and my body shaking.
(Nothing to worry about. Don't worry.)
They pulled up the x-ray.
Here's a summarization of the conversation.
Savanna: What's going on Doc?
Dr. Park: Well, Savanna, we've done so much to your tooth that it has broken under the stress. We're gonna have to remove it now. Even after all that we've had to put you through.
Whoops...
My Brain: WOOHOO!!!!!
No more waiting for it to fuse to the bone.
No waiting for it to stay in it's place.
Savanna: *sarcastically* I told you that we should've just taken it out in the first place!
Dr. Park: *laughs* Well, we were trying to save that tooth, but you should be fine. They'll just give you a retainer that will keep the top tooth in the back from growing any further.
Savanna: Alright, sounds good to me.
Dr. Park: Okay, well, we're gonna go get your mom to tell her what's going on.
Savanna: Okay.
*Mom walks in the room*
Savanna: Mom, they gotta pull the tooth!
*mom laughs*
Mom: After all of that?
Savanna: *smiling* Yup! He broke it.
Dr. Park: *explains how the tooth has be traumatized and broke and ya-da ya-da*
Erica (the assistant to the doctor): Are you gonna want laughing gas?
Savanna: Um... no?
Mom: Yeah, you'll probably want it.
Savanna: Well, I've never had it before...
Mom: You're probably gonna want it so that you don't have to focus on it so much when he yanks that tooth out.
My Brain: Oh great.
Savanna: Fine. Give it to me.
I was just a little worried. Not too bad though.
Just wasn't quite sure what to expect.
Dr. Park had suggested it before after he had first found out that he was going to have to pull the tooth. He said that it would be hilarious to have me put on laughing gas cause he already thinks I'm hysterical, even when I'm not doped up on drugs. I just so happen to come up with the wittiest stuff to say when I'm at the oral surgeons (and the orthodontists).
Dr. Park went next door to talk to Dr. Trapnell (my orthodontist) to tell him what had happened and everything. They had put me on laughing gas, which I found out was nitrous oxide. (I asked the nurse... no biggy. Haha, I was curious okay?)
A few minutes later, my entire body was vibrating.
Awesome.
Okay, not really.
It felt really weird.
My back hurt...
and the chair was uncomfortable.
I probably sat there for 15-20 minutes before Dr. Park came in again.
I'm always trying to crack a joke with that guy.
It's rather fun.
He's awesome. :)
Savanna: Dr. Park? Am I on your top 100?
Dr. Park: Oh yeah. I can't even remember most of my patients names but whenever someone says your name, I know exactly who you are.
Savanna: *laughs* Awesome.
I smiled. I love those guys. The orthodontists are the same way. I'm always cracking a joke with them. It's so fun. :)
So they pull the tooth. Which hurt... again. But I was a little out of it so I didn't notice as much. The piece that had broken, they made sure that they had gotten it out of there. I asked if I could keep the tooth, so they bagged it up for me and put it in with my prescription and my gauze (to be changed every 20 minutes! haha) It's a pretty big tooth... I mean, it is one of my 12 year molars. It's pretty sweet. I took a picture of it for you (of course)
Pretty gross, huh?
We call it the million dollar tooth.
They put some oxygen through the tubes to clear my system a bit of the laughing gas. I made them take it off of me before I was completely clear of the stuff because I hate being forced to breathe, ya know? It's just weird. So we head over to the orthodontists because I had an appointment today anyways. I was in a really good mood. I mean... something about that gas stuff made me over the edge of happiness. I was on the edge of hyper almost. Not quite, but almost. So walk into the front of the office and Kanani was there and she said that they would take care of me. They put me in the office as to be away from everyone else. I had specifically said, "I don't want anyone to touch my mouth except for Dr. Trapnell or maybe Mallory." (I really can't remember how to spell her name... I may come back to fix it once I find out.)
Dr. Trapnell came into the room and said, "Oh, Savanna!" And he gave me a hug. Muchly needed. They care about me. If your kids, or yourself need braces... I would definitely refer you to them. They're so nice and they are just all around good people and they take good care of you!
So he checked my teeth.
Perfect.
He said this and that and I don't really remember everything that he said.
Malorie was changing the bands on my teeth.
Then he said,
"I've saved the best news for last. Next time we can take your braces off."
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, I screamed WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!! in all the excitement.
(Even with the gauze in my mouth aaand.... Mallory's hands... haha)
Praise the Lord. Let's get me in there ASAP.
So I'm not going tell anyone when I'm getting my braces off. I've only told one person (besides my parents) and that's how it's going to stay. Period the end.
It could be next week,
or it could be 6 weeks from now.
You just never know when it comes to the orthodontist.
But let me tell you.
I'M SO HAPPY.
I would take a picture of myself to show you,
but I look kind of ridiculous right now.
HAHAHAHA,
I'm really tired
and I'm ready to go to sleep.
But I had to blog first so that I didn't forget anything!
I took a Lortab (lovely stuff).
And the right side of my mouth is beginning to retain feeling again.
Then Mom took me to Maceys and we got food.
Lots of food.
(I didn't wake up early enough to eat breakfast... heehee)
And she bought me ice cream... my favorite kind TOO :)
(maple nut in case you were wondering...)
but that's for later, when I can enjoy it a little bit easier.
So yep. THat's the story of my day. :)
Sorry this post is long.
But I tried to make it as enjoyable as I could.
I enjoyed writing it,
so hopefully you'll enjoy reading it!
Come and visit me if you would like.
I'll be home till 5!

Things to do to keep life interesting:
Sometimes I find that even Mr. Broadbent can find funny things to show the class. Recently, he's shown us some comics or even a video or two at the start of class that has to do with physics... or not. Sometimes, they're just random and pointless, but awesome. Just like yesterday! Yesterday he pulled up a powerpoint slide with the title: "Things to do to keep life interesting:" I thought to myself, this ought to be interesting. Well, it was freaking hilarious. Just saying. Therefore, I shall share them with you. Anybody interested in doing them with me, you just tell me when and where and I'll be there! :)
I'll find something else entertaining to do
and then I'll be sure to tell you ALL about it.
Oh, and PS I got a cool lookin' keychain at the Drama Banquet tonight for being stage manager at the beginning of the year. I felt special. :)
- Sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.
- Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.
- Order a diet water whenever you go out to eat, with a serious face.
- Specify that your drive-through order is 'to go'.
- When the money comes out of the ATM, scream, "I WON! I WON!"
- When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot yelling,"Run for your lives! They're loose!"
I'll find something else entertaining to do
and then I'll be sure to tell you ALL about it.
